Barbara Hennig Marques artistic practice unfolds at the intersections of drawing, photography, installation, performance, and digital media. She is interested in how images — whether hand-drawn, photographic, or generated by artificial intelligence — shape perception, memory, and identity. Her work explores social rituals and visual stereotypes: from questions of body and beauty to themes of consumption and luxury, as well as collective symbols and myths.
The pieces she creates transform the everyday into the poetic, placing familiar forms into new and often unsettling contexts. Ornament and exaggeration play as much of a role as reduction and silence. A field of tension emerges between irony and seriousness, between personal experience and social discourse.
Experimentation with media and material is essential to her practice: sometimes resulting in large-scale prints of Polaroids, sometimes in baroque-like AI images, luminous installations, or performative interventions in public space. This diversity of methods is not an end in itself, but rather an expression of an attitude: art as an open practice — one that poses questions, allows for moments of disorientation, and creates spaces of transformation.

 

Barbara Henning Marques helds a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art (HSLU), Design & Art.

She lives and works in Lucerne.
